a visit to curvygirls bridal

NOTE: As of October 2013, CurvyGirls Bridal is closed.

A couple of weeks ago I paid a visit to CurvyGirls Bridal in Fairfax, Virginia. It's a fairly new shop -- it's only been open for about a year -- that was created to cater to brides of all shapes and sizes. They carry dresses by designers who offer a wide range of sizes, and they stock sample gowns in larger sizes as well. Many bridal salons only stock sample dresses in small sizes, so a shop like CurvyGirls is a great addition to the DC area's already excellent bridal shopping scene.CurvyGirls Bridal in Fairfax, Virginia

I spent about an hour chatting and touring with Ruth Sutton, the owner and founder of CurvyGirls Bridal, and let me tell you, this woman loves what she does. You should see her light up when she talks about the shop, bridal fashion, and all the new things up her sleeve! Ruth's enthusiasm for brides, weddings, and bridal couture is infectious, and it's clear that she's put a lot of thought and a lot of love into the design of her business.

CurvyGirls is a really pretty shop. You're greeted at the door by this gorgeous wall and a jewelry case full of bridal bling, much of which is designed exclusively for CurvyGirls by Meg Wedding Jewelry.

Behind that lovely wall is something I haven't seen at any other bridal salon:

CurvyGirls man cave

It's a man cave! Your dad will be so excited: He can come along to your appointment and hang out on a sofa in front of a TV, but he'll still be right there to see you trying on the dress of your dreams!

Also, see that area just beyond the man cave, with the poster of Mr. Handsome in his tuxedo? CurvyGirls offers tuxedo rentals by Savvi! And with their large and varied selection of dresses for bridesmaids, moms, and flower girls, this can be your one stop for wedding day attire for everybody in your wedding party.

As for wedding gowns, CurvyGirls has a extensive selection of handpicked dresses that represents styles from the most traditional to the latest trends, with options available at all price points. This photo shows just a fraction of the dresses that are available, and I love how the dresses aren't hanging in plastic dress bags! You can walk the long, curving aisle and see the fabric, the details, and everything else about the dresses at a glance.

CurvyGirls features bridal gowns by Allure Bridals, Coco Anaïs, Anjolique, Enzoani, Roz La Kelin, La Sposa, Manuel Mota, Pronovias, and Sophia Tolli.

And see that wall of shoes there in the back? Ruth has specifically chosen shoes you can dance in all night. CurvyGirls offers shoes by Hey Lady and Angela Nuran, which are both designed with both style and hours-long comfort in mind.

For a full and updated list of designers represented at the shop, visit the Collections tab on the CurvyGirls website.

During your appointment at CurvyGirls you'll have at least two consultants working with you and your entourage, helping you find the right dress for your personal style and the style of your wedding. Bring your ideas and inspirations, but also come with an open mind and let the expert staff at CurvyGirls really be a part of your team: They're experts in finding cuts and styles to show you off to perfection. Your family and friends will enjoy this posh waiting area, complete with tissues for the inevitable tears:

In addition to the comfy circular lounge pictured above, this area features veils, tiaras, and other accessories -- even some lovely bouquets! -- so you can quickly pull together your entire wedding look.

We're really excited about welcoming CurvyGirls to D.C.'s wedding community! If you're still searching for that perfect wedding gown, put CurvyGirls Bridal on your list of shops to visit. They're easy to access, offer plenty of parking, and are truly excited about transforming you into a picture-perfect bride.
