Last Friday I took a little afternoon work break to make a visit to Soliloquy Bridal Couture, a brand-new (well, they've been open for four months now) bridal salon in historic downtown Herndon, Virginia. I spent the afternoon chatting with the owner, Miriam Liggett, and learning about her business and her collection of gorgeous dresses.
Miriam opened Soliloquy because she's a genuine couture afficionado, and you can tell it by the lines she's chosen to carry. Soliloquy offers designs by Kevan Hall, Heidi Elnora, Bryan K. Osburn, Cocoe Voci, Therez Fleetwood, Sarah Seven, Cassandra Bromfield, Sareh Nouri, Francesca Miranda, Maria Karin, Elizabeth St. John, and Johnna Ho.
Most of these designers aren't the "big" names you'll see in the wedding fashion glossies, but their designs are just stunning -- don't take my word for it, walk into Soliloquy and it'll take your breath away. And Miriam is cultivating relationships with additional designers as well, so expect to see the collection grow.
Inside, the salon is lovely. The dresses are displayed in pretty alcoves with enough space between them that they aren't crushed and you can really appreciate each one. There's a good selection of dresses for brides, bridesmaids, mothers of the bride, and flower girls; and there are plenty of styles available, from traditionally elegant to cute to cutting edge.
One thing Soliloquy's doing that I've never seen anywhere else is Skype appointments. For example, if you live here in D.C. but your mom lives several hundred miles away and can't be at your gown shopping appointments, then the salon can bring her there virtually via Skype. There's a large monitor attached to one wall along with a high-quality webcam (the photo above was taken from approximately where the monitor and webcam are located), so you can clearly see and hear your virtual shopping partner(s) and they have a great vantage point for seeing you in the dresses you're trying on. The Skype connection can stay live for the whole length of your appointment, if you like, so no need to rush.
For you and the people who are with you in real life at your appointment, Soliloquy has plenty of creature comforts to make you feel spoiled: The fitting rooms are quite large, and the seating area around the dais is ample. There's even a chair that's just the right size for the littlest flower girl!
Just in case you can't tell, I really loved Soliloquy. It's the shop you'll want to visit if fashion is high on your list of wedding priorities and you want a dress that's both flattering and truly unique. I'd happily send any of my brides there.
Soliloquy Bridal Couture is located at 754 Elden Street, Suite 103, in Herndon, Virginia. There's plenty of free parking (love that!). Be sure to call ahead for an appointment. There's a list of upcoming events -- sample sales, trunks shows, fashion shows, and other fun things! -- on their website, and they also update their Facebook page regularly with the latest happenings at the shop.
I think you'll like Soliloquy as much as I do. And when you visit, be sure to tell Miriam that Stephanie from Pretty Entertaining says hi!
